The actions of the United States with the help of Cape Verde to execute the illegal extradition of Venezuelan ambassador Alex Saab, have given a strong blow to the laws and international conventions that govern nations.
It should be recalled that the arbitrary capture of Alex Saab took place in Cape Verde on June 12, 2020, when the aircraft in which he was traveling made a stopover in the African country, in order to refuel and continue with his humanitarian mission to Iran.
Despite having all the accreditations as Venezuelan diplomat before the African peoples based on the Vienna Convention, the Geneva Convention and the United Nations, Alex Saab was detained and taken to a cell where his rights were violated.
Since his detention, Saab’s human and international rights have been violated; both the Venezuelan constitutional authorities and his family and team of lawyers were prevented from entering Cape Verde to make the respective defense.
Alex Saab’s case is an example of persecution and hatred of a country.
Venezuela has been persecuted by the U.S. government for several years; economic sanctions have been imposed and directly aimed at the economic means to help the situation of the country; an example of this is the illegal detention of Special Envoy Alex Saab, for his direct participation in the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP).
As a Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Saab has provided basic foodstuffs and medicines with the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP); to meet the needs of social welfare programs in Venezuela; following the sanctions imposed by the United States.
As a result of the sanctions imposed by the U.S. government, the Venezuelan government, together with Colombian businessman Alex Nain Saab Moran, has joined forces to support the CLAPs internationally.
The good result of the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP); generated a discrediting campaign of the program by the US; which was labeled as unconstitutional.
In July 2019, Alex Saab is sanctioned by the Treasury Department; for his relationship with the CLAPs.
Therefore, the figure of the businessman Alex Saab was affected, accusing him of the purchase of overpriced products, and of poor quality.
In addition, other accusations without evidence were added by the United States, which led to his illegal detention in the African country Cape Verde and his extradition to the North American country.
Support of the Venezuelan people in view of the kidnapping of Ambassador Alex Saab
After learning of the new kidnapping of the Venezuelan Special Envoy, the Venezuelan people mobilized in the streets of Caracas last Sunday, October 17, to demand his release and to accompany his wife, Camilla Fabri, who denounced the U.S. government for kidnapping, torture and psychological damage to her husband.
“What bothers the U.S. the most, is that my husband Alex Saab will never bend,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, she held the U.S. Government responsible for his integrity in the prison to which he will be taken.
“we continue with courage and fight for the dignified peoples of the world, for Venezuela and the legitimate government of Nicolás Maduro. The truth will prevail. Thanks to you”, he sentenced.
The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, denounced that the illegal capture of Saab is due to a US attack.
During his speech after confirming the transfer of Ambassador Alex Saab to Miami, the Venezuelan President revealed that “they took him to an unhealthy prison and put him in the dark, in a hole full of excrement (…) Members of the US Government tortured him for days with blows, they broke three of his molars, they put electricity on him for several days”, he detailed.
“They wanted to force him to lie and turn him into a monster to be a false accuser against Venezuela, which Alex Saab never accepted”, said President Maduro.
He also asserted that Alex Saab has the support of all the Venezuelan people; and of all the social movements of the world, who believe in and defend the truth as the maximum response to the systematic violations used by the US imperialism against the Venezuelan diplomat.
He stressed the importance of uniting and spreading the persecution and aggression against this diplomat tortured and deprived of all his human rights. “With the word of God and the word of the people, we must raise a powerful movement of solidarity for truth, justice and freedom for Alex Saab in Venezuela and around the world,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that legal and diplomatic instances such as the Court of the Economic Community of West African States issued a sentence ratifying Saab’s illegal detention and demanding his immediate release; while the United Nations Human Rights Committee issued an instruction on June 8, 2021, requesting the suspension of the extradition of the Venezuelan diplomat to the U.S., which the Cape Verdean authorities refused to comply with.
