Through a communiqué, the Panamanian Committee of Solidarity with Palestine asked the authorities of Cape Verde for the release of Ambassador Alex Saab; arbitrarily detained on June 12, 2020.

In the communiqué, the committee denounced that “when conditions do not allow the United States to destroy its adversaries by pure and direct violence, they apply all possible means of the war of attrition, seeking the moral and spiritual destruction of individuals and peoples who dare to confront them”.

In this sense, they ratify that “women and men identified with the causes of the peoples; who fight for justice, peace, independence and sovereignty, we are summoned to join this campaign for the liberation of Alex Saab, a Venezuelan citizen of Palestinian roots”, states the document.

Below we share the content of the communiqué sent by the Panamanian Committee demanding the release of Alex Saab:

PANAMANIAN COMMITTEE OF SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE

Panama, September 02, 2021

COMMUNIQUÉ

The Panamanian Committee of Solidarity with Palestine, joins the international campaign against the detention of the Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab and in turn we urge the government of Cape Verde to comply with the provisions of the United Nations Human Rights Committee to prevent the extradition of the diplomat to the United States.

The context of Alex Saab’s detention occurs when he was on his way to the Islamic Republic of Iran, to acquire medicines and medical equipment required by Venezuela; for the attention of the Covid-19 pandemic and made a stopover in the Republic of Cape Verde on June 12, 2020. This act in violation of international law and norms clearly corresponds to the actions of aggression and siege against the Venezuelan people, undertaken by the Government of the United States with the purpose of affecting and abruptly interrupting, on behalf of the Venezuelan government, efforts aimed at guaranteeing the right to food, health and other basic fundamental rights of the Venezuelan people.

The practice of capturing citizens of other states in third countries on fabricated charges by U.S. law enforcement agencies has become a known and dangerous behavior. When conditions do not allow the United States to destroy their adversaries by pure and direct violence, they apply all possible means of the war of attrition, seeking the moral and spiritual destruction of individuals and peoples who dare to confront them. That is why all solidarity to Alex Saab and his family is important.

Women and men identified with the causes of the people who fight for justice, peace, independence and sovereignty, we are called to join this campaign for the release of Alex Saab, a Venezuelan citizen with Palestinian roots.
