The government of Cape Verde informed that it continues in favor of the extradition of the colombian businessman Álex Saab to the United States, country that has created a file with different accusations against him.
The Attorney General Luis José Landim expressed to EFE news agency that the country “maintains the same position as always” on the case in question.
Cape Verde insists on extraditing Saab
The statements come after the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), issued an order to the Cape Verdean government to release Alex Saab and thus terminate the extradition proceedings to the United States.
“The position of the Prosecutor’s Office has not changed in relation to the extradition proceedings of Mr. Alex Saab nor with respect to the acceptance of the jurisdiction or supremacy of the jurisprudence of the ECOWAS Court of Justice over the domestic legal order” of Cape Verde, Landim said.
Venezuelan ambassador Alex Saab has been detained since June 18, 2020.
